This blog will attempt to document the progress as we tackle an allotment from scratch which has been totally neglected, 5 feet deep in thick brambles with much rubbish underneath. We are using recommended heavy hand tools which we have not used before and will be commenting on their effectiveness as we go. Finally we are trying to complete this without wrecking my bad back which has a history of dodgyness after a bout of disc prolapse!

End in sight...
Some nice weather and I have reached the far end of the plot on the far side. Very encouraging....
Very good progress indeed. It's always satisfying when the last turn of the soil is completed. I'm still clearing Dandelions from my new plot, after just over a months lay off, having my left hip replaced. The actual digging isn't a problem, lifting every piece of root (and stones) out is the real pain.
It's bad enough for me bending down to pull up the endless bramble roots which are turned up without the hip problem so I know what you mean and I sympathise. I am sure it will get easier in time.
wow how satisfying is that for you both. Such a lot of hard work now paying dividends :) Can't wait to see how it looks with all that lovely veg growing. Let's hope this year is a bit better and slightly drier and warmer than the last two :)
