The first hint of Spring was in the air today, nice and sunny although still rather cold. However it did mean that I could put in a serious effort and get the centre section dug and cleared all the way to the bottom of the plot. This now leaves a narrow strip alongside the path to deal with and I will be all ready for a major spud planting session!
This blog will attempt to document the progress as we tackle an allotment from scratch which has been totally neglected, 5 feet deep in thick brambles with much rubbish underneath. We are using recommended heavy hand tools which we have not used before and will be commenting on their effectiveness as we go. Finally we are trying to complete this without wrecking my bad back which has a history of dodgyness after a bout of disc prolapse!

Glutton for punishment?
I have unpacked my brush cutter today, braving the drizzle and fog to attack the two overgrown and bramble infested allotments at the top end of ours. This is not an act of benevolence but purely to slow down the encroachment on our plots.....

Another day...another few feet...
I have reached the bonfire.... It is still a little too wet to light so I have decided to continue digging past it and leave it on an island to dig after it has gone. I am now within 10 feet of the end of the plot!
