This blog will attempt to document the progress as we tackle an allotment from scratch which has been totally neglected, 5 feet deep in thick brambles with much rubbish underneath. We are using recommended heavy hand tools which we have not used before and will be commenting on their effectiveness as we go. Finally we are trying to complete this without wrecking my bad back which has a history of dodgyness after a bout of disc prolapse!

At last!
Quite an event, just finished de-brambling and digging the second plot, worth a glass or two of wine tonight I think.....
Looking good. I'm hoping mine will be a bit more weed free than last year having tried to remove most of the dock, thistle, nettles, buttercups etc. Saw some fantastic azadas being used on Madeira on a recent trip. Some heavy ones for initial clearing and others with long narrow blades which give the potato plots their special appearance. I could have bought one of the latter very cheaply in the local shop but it would probably have cost me an arm and a leg to bring it back on Monarch airlines. Can't find this model online,so maybe I'll get one next time.
