This blog will attempt to document the progress as we tackle an allotment from scratch which has been totally neglected, 5 feet deep in thick brambles with much rubbish underneath. We are using recommended heavy hand tools which we have not used before and will be commenting on their effectiveness as we go. Finally we are trying to complete this without wrecking my bad back which has a history of dodgyness after a bout of disc prolapse!
You've got some lovely soil there diggybob. You've done well to get this far with an allotment so badly covered with brambles. Of course your allotment was not as bad as mine when I started... :-))
Yes, the soil is great and very deep. I am glad to see the end of the really rough stuff in sight. A new shed in the next couple of days and some fruit tree planting will make it seem like I am getting somewhere at last.
I still have a massive bonfire to burn off but the allotment regs don't allow bonfires until after 4pm so I need it to get dark a little later before I throw a match on it as I am not allowed to leave the allotment with a bonfire still burning.
