A slow start this year due to other commitments, however glorious sun today so a couple of hours getting the weed growth off the first bed sees it ready to rotavate
This blog will attempt to document the progress as we tackle an allotment from scratch which has been totally neglected, 5 feet deep in thick brambles with much rubbish underneath. We are using recommended heavy hand tools which we have not used before and will be commenting on their effectiveness as we go. Finally we are trying to complete this without wrecking my bad back which has a history of dodgyness after a bout of disc prolapse!
Nice to see someone else clearing away weeds Before rotavating. Never liked the idea of rotavating weeds in then complaining later about more weeds growing and slugs etc in the soil. Good job.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I like a clean bed to start with as rotavators tend to encourage increased growth in any weed left in. I returned with my trusty Howard 200 to rotavate but after getting one bed sorted it coughed died on me and refused to start again so I had to return home. Today I got it out of the shed and stripped the carburettor, air filter and fuel filter and cleaned everything out. This got it going again right away but I have now ordered a new inline filter, fuel pipe and clips as I have no idea how long the old ones have been on there. I also decided to drain off all last seasons petrol and will be refilling with fresh and fit a new spark plug. Hopefully trouble free starting from now on!
