Another session and I have reached the end of the allotment. I now have 3 huge piles of brambles drying out. Ready for the next phase now, getting all those root balls up!
I will try to lift the rough turf growing on the right to lay down again as paths between the beds.
Excellent effort, how's your back? Been knocking my back garden into shape today, after the Winter, only found 1 bramble thank goodness!!
ReplyDeleteHello Rooko, thanks for the post. Funnily enough, I did suffer a serious and very painful back problem a couple of years ago after smashing up a concrete drive with a sledge hammer (Not as young as I used to be!). It turned out to be a prolapsed disc... Consequently I approached this task with caution but the Azada has proved itself as a complete back-saver, I am using a downwards swinging chopping and drawing action at the base of the brambles where they exit the ground and they just give up, It's quick and amazingly effective but I am keeping the cutting edge of the blade very sharp using a scythe stone, so far I am not even getting a twinge...
ReplyDeletePS. Making a start on the root balls today with the 3-prong fork, I will report on that later....
