It has been hard to get on the allotment for the past week or two, plus working away has not helped. However a little better weather has led to some progress. I am somewhat amazed at the growth shown by the potatoes. I put this down to a combination of very fertile soil following 20 years of wilderness and the sheer amount of rain into the ground....
Today I managed to put in 2 rows of dwarf beans.
Then dig some of the last bed and plant 3 butternut squashes and a row of 2 types of cucumber.
Finally it was on to hands and knees to take out the rapid weed growth in the onion bed.
This blog will attempt to document the progress as we tackle an allotment from scratch which has been totally neglected, 5 feet deep in thick brambles with much rubbish underneath. We are using recommended heavy hand tools which we have not used before and will be commenting on their effectiveness as we go. Finally we are trying to complete this without wrecking my bad back which has a history of dodgyness after a bout of disc prolapse!

iExplorer link posted
In case anyone is wondering what the previous post has to do with allotments, I posted it as a thank you for the team who develop it. It's a great app for browsing files on your phone and it's free. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to see the files on their phone.

Pushing forward
Once again dodging showers but managed to finish the middle bed ready for planting and make a start on digging over the last bed again.

More progress and a diversion for bad weather
Between the showers, I managed to put in 2 more rows of spuds, earth up the spuds in the main bed and put in a row of cabbage in the top bed which I decided to cloche to keep the pigeons off. Then it really started to rain so I resorted to DIY....

Things are happening...
Not much to report for the last 2 weeks as I have been working away. However a trip to the allotmant this morning shows that things are starting to move now.
